This week saw a fantastic opportunity for Paul Normington, our Creative Director and Associate Account Director Lindsey to take an up close and personal look at our new and exciting client MADE.COM.
As the world’s fashionistas descended on the capital (for London Fashion Week if you were unsure), so did the more design orientated among us. As part of The London Design Festival 2015 calendar, MADE.COM flung open the doors of their flagship showroom in London’s West End (a convenient 2 minute stroll from our London HQ) to a select number of friends and family.
Importantly the evening gave the opportunity for MADE.COM to announce the winner of their annual Emerging Talent Awards (ETA). The awards aim to source the best in new furniture design from aspiring young designers and studios. The shortlisted pieces are then voted for by the MADE.COM users through the site.
This year’s winner was emerging Italian design studio Gina, with their design entitled “overlap storage”. The collection was “intended to create a sort of overlap between the door’s colour and the wood of the rear cabinet”. And will now be put into production and sold as a new range on MADE.COM. So really looking forward to seeing the final product in the flesh!
As they did last year with the launch of Made X Unboxed (please check it out if you haven’t already), the LDF launch was the perfect opportunity for MADE.COM to showcase their latest Instagram campaign ‘#madeyoulook’, and a new musical installation ’Sounds Like Home’ from Goldsmiths graduate Haeyoun Kim, which is on display in the Soho showroom throughout the LDF week.
The showroom is a fantastic opportunity to see the quality of design and craftsmanship up close, and to also see how MADE.COM have embraced technology in the physical retail space by utilising RFID technology, which allows customers to purchase products using branded tablet devices which are provided instore. By simply touching the product or product sample, customers are directly connected to the online purchasing journey.
Apart from the fantastically designed canapés and products on show at the event, it was great to meet up with a client team brimming with enthusiasm for the project work we are about to undertake, and although a relatively young brand, one which is growing from strength to strength.
For those in the north of England, MADE.COM are launching a new showroom in Liverpool’s Met Quarter on the 30th of September, where you can witness this unique retail experience for yourself.
